PERFIDEOUS ALBION.
How 'the west' (aka the UK with a bit of help from France) tried and failed to set Germany against the USSR, and how Stalin with the Hitler-Stalin pact outplayed them.
'By signing the pact, Stalin stole the initiative. He delayed the German attack on the USSR by nearly two years, gained vital territory in Eastern Europe, and used the breathing space to rebuild the Red Army and relocate industry beyond the Urals. When Hitler finally did invade in 1941, he faced a far stronger Soviet Union than he would have in 1939.
In hindsight, the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact made Stalin the first to understand and neutralize the West’s geopolitical game. The supposed “victims of appeasement” had been the ones orchestrating it, and it was Stalin’s cold realism
that exposed their hypocrisy.
