THE ROAD TO HELL.

There isn't a cat in hells chance that 'we' can reduce emissions to the level we need to in order to avoid catestrophic global heating. Those who refuse to adopt the policies to achieve this do so by simply denying that carbon (and associated) emissions cause climate change.

I knew this would happen decades ago - understanding the science but also understanding capitalism and geopolitics. As climate change intensifies the economic tensions will give rise to social and international conflict - and the risk of war. I retreated to somewhere safer but under no illusions that this will entirely protect me. People (and communities) need to become more resilient and self reliant.

The only hope for the planet is advanced technology - and the major player in that will be China. It has a plan. It will stop generating power using coal and develop the renewable and other alternatives in the next 5 years, and then massively reduce emissions. It will save the world.

CHINA....AND WESTERN 'LIBERAL ORIENTALISM'.

  Warwick Powell argues that when we in the west look at China we do so in a patronising way he calls 'Liberal Orientalism'. In doing so we dismiss the Cultural Revolution as an aberration rather than a crucial break with the past. He contrasts China with India - the so-called 'worlds largest democracy' where the form of Government was inherited from British Colonialism and is chaotic. This raises the whole idea of governance. If the aim is effective government, India simply doesn't compare to China.  And so is western democracy the ONLY way in which good governance can be achieved? It clearly is not - especially in the days of mass propaganda dominated by wealth and associated corruption.
